The function of muscle?

Able to contract and provide movement.

Motor End Plate

Area where nerve innervates the muscle

Three types of Muscle tissue?

Smooth
Skeletal
Cardiac

Smooth Muscle

-Involuntary control (autonomic nervous system)
-One nucleus centrally located
-Digestive tract, blood vessel, respiratory system, vascular system, & larger glands
-long and spindle shaped

Skeletal Muscle

-voluntary control
-cross striations (stripped effect)
-multi nuclei, pushed to periphery of cell
-Long 3cm
-Rapid, Strong, Short movement

Cardiac Muscle

-Branching Fibers
-one nucleus
-In heart
-involuntary control
-characteristics of both smooth and skeletal
-striated

Intercalated discs

-Junction between one cell to another, controlled by the ANS.

Striations

Alternating bands of light and dark, due to actin and myosin.

Actin and Myosin

Are contractile proteins known as myofilaments

endomysium
perimysium
epimysium

Name 3 kinds of conn. tx. coverings.

organization of skeletal muscle

-support the muscles cells
-transmit contractions
-attachment site for ligaments and tendons
-provide nutrients for the cells
