major characters (n)

The most important characters in a narrative (story).

minor characters (n)

Less important characters who are not the focus of the story.

protagonist (n)

The main character of a narrative around whom the main conflict revolves.

antagonist (n)

The character who is in conflict with the protagonist.

dynamic character (n)

Someone who changes and learns as a result of what happens in the story.

static character (n)

A character who does not change, develop, or learn during the course of a story.

round character (n)

A complex, fully developed character with many personality traits, both bad and good.

flat character (n)

A one-sided character with just one or two personality traits, usually all good or all bad.

point of view (n)

The perspective from which a story is told.

narrator (n)

The voice (or person) telling the story.

first-person point of view (n)

The narrator is a character in the story and uses the pronouns "I" and "me". The reader sees everything through that character's eyes.

third-person point of view (n)

The narrator is someone outside the story rather than a character.

third-person omniscient point of view (n)

The narrator is all-knowing and can share the thoughts and feelings of all characters.

third-person limited point of view (n)

The narrator shares the thoughts and feelings of one character who is not the narrator.
