Area of a rectangle

A = bh

Area = base times height

Area of a triangle

A = (bh)/2

Area = base times height divided by 2

Area of a trapezoid

A = (base 1 + base 2)(h)/2

Area = the sum of the bases times height divided by 2

Circumference of a Circle

C = Pi times radius squared

Diameter

the distance of a line segment passing through the center of the circle to two points on the circle

Radius

the distance from the center of the circle any point on the circle

Perimeter of a Circle

P = 2 times pi times radius

or

P = Pi times diameter

Perimeter of a Polygon

add up the distances of all sides

Perpendicular Lines

Two lines that intersect forming right angles

Parallel Lines

Lines that are the same distance apart and never intersect.

Mean

the average of a set of data

add up all data and divide by the total number of data items

Median

The middle value of an ordered set of data. If there are an even number of data items, it is the average of the middle two numbers

Mode

the number(s) that occurs the most in a set of data

Range (of Data)

the difference between the highest and lowest data item

Perimeter

The distance around the outside of a figure. Add up the lengths of all the sides to find a figure's perimeter.

Straight Angles

An angle that forms a straight line. Totals 180 degrees.

Area

The amount of space taken up by a two dimensional figure. The amount of something (paper, carpet, paint) that it would take to cover the two-dimensional object.

Volume

The amount of space inside a three-dimensional object such as a box.

Volume of a Rectangular Prism

V = lwh

multiply the distance of all three dimensions.

Complementary Angles

The sum of the angles total 90 degrees.

Supplementary Angles

The sum of the angles total 180 degrees.

Acute Angles

Angles less than 90 degrees.

Right Angles

Has 90 degrees - sides are perpendicular.

Obtuse Angles

Angles with over 90 degrees

Isosceles Triangle

Has two congruent (same length) sides, which means the angles opposite the sides are congruent too.

Scalene Triangle

All sides have different lengths.

What is the sum of the degrees of a triangle?

180 degrees

What is the degree measure of each angle in an equilateral triangle?

60 degrees

What formula do you use to find the missing length of a right triangle?

Pythagorean Theorum

Pythagorean Theorum

a squared plus b squared equals c squared. c is the hypotenuse.

Hypotenuse

The longest side of a right triangle. Always across from the right angle.

Polygon

A closed two-dimensional figure such as a square, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, etc.

Octogon

an 8 sided polygon

Pentagon

a 5 sided polygon

Hexagon

a 6 sided figure

Triangle

a 3 sided polygon

quadrilateral

a 4 sided polygon such as a square, a rectangle, a trapezoid, etc.
