Population Growth Rate

The average percentage of a population including the surplus of births over deaths and the balance of immigrants and emigrants.

Birth Rate - Death Rate + Immigrants - Emigrants= Pop. Growth Rate

Birth Rate

Gives the average annual number of births during a year per 1,000 persons in the population (in a specified area during a specified period of time).

Mortality (Death) Rate

Gives the average annual number of deaths during a year per 1,000 population (in a specified area during a specified period of time).

Net Migration Rate

The difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during the year per 1,000 persons.

Immigrants - Emigrants= Net Migration Rate

Infant Mortality Rate

The number of infant deaths under one year old in a given year per 1,000 live births in the same year; included is the total death rate, and deaths by gender.

Life Expectancy of Birth

The age to which a baby born today can expect to live.

Total Fertility Rate

The average number of child births per woman if all women lived to the end of their childbearing years and bore children according to a given fertility rate at each age.

GDP (purchasing power parity)

Value of all final goods and services produced within a nation in a given year.

GDP per capita (PPP)

Shows GDP (gross domestic product) on a purchasing power parity (PPP) basis divided by population

Replacement Rate

A fertility rate of 2.1.

Immigrate

Moving TO another country.

Emigrate

Moving FROM another country.

Population Density

Number of people living in a specified area usually a square mile) - determined by taking the population and dividing it by the size (area).
