He’s already dead by the time the Odyssey begins, so we only see him in the Underworld. in the Iliad Achilleus was given a choice: live a long and uneventful life, or get lots of glory and then die. Obviously, he chose get lots of glory, but when we hear him speak as a "shade" it looks like he regrets it. He says he would rather live in the real world as the lowliest slave than be Big Man in Hades.
